Hi there

thank you again for the your ongoing engagement and the feedback you provided!
I added last weeks notes of the review, and the seeds for innovation from our last session to the contributions, and I am most curious to see your refinements as we discussed (inlcuding concept elaboration, contextual description and storyboard). Contact me if you have any questions.

Hi there

before finishing the year lets envision our next steps:
I hope January 22nd fits for the next meeting!? Until then please prepare two things:
1) Lets continue with the personas, imagining and describing the worst thing that could happen to him/her (related to our learning topic), as well as her/his ultimate desire. Both can be written in the format of a newspaper article the persona reads one day.
2) Lets move on to the scenarios: The 2008 paper by Gassner gives a good overview on methods of future and scenario methods (we focus on chapters 2.3 & 2.4). Daniel and Robin - could you present this with an example of the "creative-narrative scenario" for either of your personas? Then Stefan could present the 2005 future scorecard paper pointing out the more strategic aspects. Don't hesitate to contact me by mail for any questions.
After discussing both we will finally turn to the research communication. In the links you find some more examples to watch between the years.

With best wishes from Tokyo for the upcoming year of the ウサギ

Insight Analysis

Hi there,

under "lectures" please find the ones from last time and today. As we discussed please enrich the findings below with the data from the missing diaries (Robin). Next steps will then be:
- Detailed description of the three insight with vivid examples
- Creation of a (multimedia) persona for each
Please upload descriptions and personas until Dec. 6th - afterwards we will move on towards the future projections - for a first glimpse please check the link at the bottom to the "Wired" scenario site.
Don't hesitate to contact me for any questions. Thanks again for the small but great and inspiring data analysis session today

Just uploaded a document, "persona01.pdf". Gladly add/change anything if anyone has suggestions. Make it more detailed, perhaps?

i just uploaded persona02.pdf! the same goes for this one, suggestions are welcome!

Hi, and thanks for the documents. The personas may be enriched through personal characteristics such as messy versus orderly, impatient versus relaxed or hands-on versus intellectual habitus. Remember they are supposed to be archetypal fictions, not friends of yours ;) The insights descriptions may profit from structuring into topics like framework management ("planning all your activities, not just the studies"), last minute motivation booster and such for the scheduling part, and activities like "providing feedback" and "scheduling group" / "individual tasks".
Could you please refine the documents in this manner, and Stefan: Provide the missing part? Thanks and cheers, Henning

Compilation of results

Leverage group activities
- Group activity and organization/leverage groups
- organizing, preparing meetings on Incom
- unsynced schedules -> hard for group
- online groupwork preparation
- informal group meeting (bar) -> probably driven by technology
- group e-mails -> organizing role - phone calls, possible when urgent

  • learn group is whole social environment
  • informal vs formal learning groups
  • Parents, collegues, friends - discussions

Scheduling and prioritization
- Forced to keep up concentration even if tired
- Capability to learn down after lunch
- Prioritization of activities and scheduling as topic
- "get it done" before music event
- "save" / use time on train - not planned
- Things blend
- "I-might-as-well"-studies vs (cultivation stimulating - environment & socializing cliché) - Dedicated learning places

Natural/life learning (life changing/Life Learning)
Windows of opportunity (for behaviour change)

- Moments that trigger learning: life changing
- Happy to work with new "substitute"
- positive disruptions/negative distractions
- disruptions trigger learning
- Phone disrups focus / concentration "in a negative way"
- music pauses interrupt the flow of everything
- Aha moments (with people?)
- "refresch google reader & twitter --- just in time & returned
- seeking productive disractions
- incedental learning (discovery learning)
- functional hobbies
- Inspiration form up to date information -- time trigger time stamp
- continous degrees of focus 8in out)
- FOCUSING | Blending in and out vs "leasuring away"
- weekend - state of relaxed learning
- leasuring away on google reader account
- relaxed learning drif on and out school work

Hi there,

next meeting is on Nov. 19th and we will finish the (ethnographic) user research part with a data analysis exercise. Please bring the results of your diary studies and observation protocols (and upload them in the contributions section)! Saturday Nov. 20th there will be no meeting in Potsdam, instead another self-directed exercise and another meeting towards the end of the semester.
If anyone is able and willing to review some fundamental work on futures studies until next friday please drop me a mail.
See you on friday

Henning

PS: And please keep on looking for thrilling examples of research communication in the senses we discussed and post them here.
